Gerardo and Maria Moceri are being honored as Heroes of Public Education for the Payson Unified School District. We are sorry to see Gerardo and Maria finish his business career in Payson, as they relocate permanently to the Sedona area to run his other restaurant full time. Gerardo and Maria have played a major role in the Payson schools during his career in the community. Whether it be supporting school programs through fundraising, donating food, or mentoring students, their teaching spirit and generosity has been vital in helping our students find success.

Gerardo and Maria were a major supporter of the high school soccer teams. They have hosted their annual banquets, donated t-shirts, and held fundraisers at lunchtime to support the teams. They helped the track team stock their hospitality room and made sure the athletes got a top notch meal while on the road to track meets in Sedona. Gerardo and Maria also donated food to our first Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. These are just a few examples of the types of investments Gerardo and Maria have made to support our programs.

Their restaurant has been the backdrop for many of our students growing up, whether they enjoyed a nice dinner out before prom or earned their first working experience busing tables or serving food. Gerardo and Maria have taken many of our students under their wings and helped them grow up. They have personally mentored students from our Culinary Arts classes and prepared them for competitions, International cooking displays, or just taught them the way around the kitchen and business world.

We will miss having Gerardo and Maria being involved in the Payson schools community, but the impact they have made for our students, past and present, will go on for a long time. For these reasons and many more, Gerardo and Maria Moceri deserve to be recognized as a HEROs of public education.
